VEVCHANI

The locality Vevchani Springs is near the settlement, on 936 meters above the sea level. It is an attractive and a popular place for the visitors. Also it is a cult place with three sacral objects and many customs are connected within. It is recently that this locality was reorganized and protected.
Night lighting give the opportunity for a pleasant view and pleasure, what is rare at night time. For its attraction, it is proclaimed for a monument of the nature, such as it would attract many tourists. To increase the offer, many cultural events are organized. In that sense, by a project, it was built a little open scene in a wood construction, in order to contribute for the cultural life of the settlement, as well as to promote the tourism.

Arrival to Vevchani.

Going by foot to Vevchani Springs. These springs are among the most rare, pseudoperiodic ones, siphon- springs in the Republic of Macedonia. Springs are located on the eastern slopes of Jablanitza mountain, near the village of Vevchani, at 900 meters above the sea level. The main spring, situated into the hole of a cave, illusory drains during the summer months. At about ten meters lower, there are several permanent springs, connected under the ground to the main spring.

Here you can savour the “forgotten” old village specialities and appreciate the full taste of the healthy organic food, that makes the visit an unforgettable one.The wood and stone construction, the traditional decorative objects and the old fire place of the restaurant will make you sense the warmth of Macedonia.

Going to the church of St. Erazmus. The little mediaeval church of St. Erasmus is dedicated to the first Christian missionary to one of these parts, St. Erasmus of Antioch, who visited the area, towards the end of the 3rd century.
As in all other cave churches, here too the frescoes were painted on the rock face, probably in the 13th century. The dating has been done by help of exemples of imperial garments and according to the style of the work in one of the portraits in the church that, it is believed, may represent the Byzantine Emperor Theodorus.
